January 5, 2026
For the second time in a row, 23 members joined together at 6:30 to enjoy a wonderful meal, prepared by Al and Marion Johnson and Jeanne Godden. It makes sense to start the new year with Sauerkraut and Ribs, but there was also noodles for those not happy with the kraut! A salad, some relishes, and a wonderful chocolate sheet cake with ice cream completed the meal. We were grateful to have Gil Smith willing to wash the dishes!
Our Worthy Matron, Cindy Pience, opened the chapter with thoughts appropriate for a new year and welcomed all.
Our honored guests tonight were our very own members: District Vice President, Jody Bails and her aide, Rick Bails; Grand Chapter Historian, Marion Johnson; and Charities Director, Jeanne Godden. We are always pleased to recognize our Honored Masons (6), 50 year members (9), our Past Matrons and Patrons and former grand appointments.
During the collection of the sunshine donations, we tried to sing “I’m Glad I Know who Jesus Is.” We were surprised by a meeting with no bills presented!
Penny Brown helped finalize details on the Masonic Inspection Dinner on January 24th. Those cooking are to come at 1:00, those setting tables and serving at 3:30, or closer to 6:00.
We signed cards for Dorothy Neer, who will soon be 98, and some of our shut ins. We hope to have a visit to Jim Oliver in February. We also agreed to send a C$ donation to an Urbana resident.
Our Charities Director, Jeanne Godden, announced a Chris Case pancake and sausage Flip here on January 17th. This will be a district fundraiser and she will need a little help. 44 Club will have their January meeting here. So come and have a Flipping Good Time from 8 - 10 and attend the 44 Club meeting at 8:30, too!
Jeanne is also planning a talent show and is looking for something from each chapter. It will probably be in May. Al and Marion illustrated “The Elevator Dance,” which brought a good chuckle and might be used as a filler.
We discussed a number of volunteer opportunities, and scheduled the North Lewisburg Food Pantry on March 8, which Jody Bails, will arrange, and the Union County Breakfast which we will help with on April 18, under the direction of Tammy Carlson.
John Pience led us in renewing our obligation. The “Giving Plate” was presented to Lee Ann Smith.
Our February 2nd meeting will have dinner prepared by Bill and Nancy Instine. We will have Initiatory work in March, April and May. Come and join us!

About OES
Caroline Chapter #39, OES, is a subordinate chapter of Ohio Grand Chapter and the General Grand Chapter.
The Order of the Eastern Star is one of the largest fraternal organization to which both men and women may belong. It is a social order comprised of persons with spiritual values, but it is not a religion. Its appeal rests in the true beauty of the refreshing and character-building lessons that are so sincerely portrayed in its ritualistic work. A deep fraternal bond exists between its members. It is the wholesome relationship of sisterly and brotherly love brought about through high principles exemplified in our lives which makes us near and dear to each other.

While this Order is composed of people of deep spiritual convictions, it is open to all faiths, except no faith. The personal welfare of our members is vital to all of those in the Eastern Star and it is considered a privilege to help another member whenever we can.

The stated purposes of the organization are Charitable, Educational, Fraternal and Scientific, but there is much more to it than that. Dr. Rob Morris, the Poet Laureate of Masonry, founded the Order using beautiful and inspiring biblical examples of heroic conduct and moral values. These portray the noble principles which should adorn the personal lives of Eastern Star members. Eastern Star strives to take good people and through uplifting and elevating associations of love and service, and through precept and example, build an Order which is truly dedicated to Charity, Truth and Loving Kindness.
